FrogaYoga (froga rhymes with yoga) is the first part of the title of three books Lani wrote for children about yoga. Each book tells a humorous story about a family of frogs who do yoga. The yoga poses are done by the frogs or Nikki and there are cute names and a rhyme on each page telling the story. For ages 4 to 9. Lily Froga book has 3 games in it. The poses are named for animals and other things familiar to young children, i.e. Surfer I, kitten, lion, dead bug, seal, etc.
The benefits are many --- yoga helps young children focus, it shows how exercise can be fun. Children learn to imitate the pictures in the book of the frogs doing the poses. A very young child will get into the pose, learning imitative skills to do so, then will hold the pose just a few seconds. He/she is then encouraged to run or crawl or hop around, imitating the movements and sounds of the animal name of the pose.
Yoga is a great way for parent and child to exercise together. Besides flexibility, strength and imitation of the poses, a child learns body awareness, and has fun with other children performing the poses.
The frog pictures are large and can be colored, thus increasing fine motor skills and the child will have his/her own book that has been colored in favorite colors. The games explore following directions and matching skills.
